Instructions
for Endodontic Treatments
Here are some simple instructions to follow if you are going to get root canal treatment. Take into account that your endodontist will give you some more specific instructions if necessary.
Before the Treatment
The endodontic treatment does not require specific instructions. However, it is advisable to relax well the night before the treatment.
The endodontic procedure is done using a local anesthetic. If you take any medication for blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid, or any other conditions, continue taking it as usual.
In some cases, depending on their clinical record, some patients need premedication or a change of the medication regime. In those cases, the patients will have to complete a medical clearance form in full.
Afterward
When the endodontic treatment is finished, your endodontist will give you a series of instructions to deal with any discomfort and take care of the tooth until your dentist makes the final restoration of the piece.
Teeth are more prone to fracturing immediately after the endodontic treatment. Therefore, you should minimize chewing with that tooth. This will help prevent the recontamination of the inside of the tooth. In addition, patients must be aware that now that the treated tooth is more fragile, it may fracture before the dentist can fully restore it.
If you experience intense pain for several days or visible inflammation inside or outside the mouth, it is better to contact us to follow the case.
